2019 SSRMH 3 Day Gaited Charity Event at the Ocala Horse Park
The Little Club that could...
It started with a big idea and a very small budget: the Southern States Rocky Mountain Horse Club. Our vision for Florida and our neighboring states was to bring back the shows and events that were once so popular with the Rocky Mountain Horse exhibitors. The Club was started with a handful of members in October 2018, with no money in the bank and what seemed like an impossible plan, to have a 3 day event in Ocala with an organized trail ride and 2 days of showing. 4 months later; after a lot of HUSTLE, a lot of sponsor solicitation, seeking out advice from anyone and everyone, doubt, stress, prayers and faith...the SSRMHC 3 Day Charity Event came to pass. It was a great success! We had exhibitors from as far north as Massachusetts, wonderfully talented horses from Kentucky and most importantly the support from our local Floridian exhibitors. The Attendance in the Open Gaited classes far exceeded our expectations, with the largest class featuring 21 horses! We had Pasos, Walking Horses, Spotted Saddle Horses, Icelandic Horses, Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses, Racking Horses and Missouri Foxtrotters all competing along with the Rocky Mountain Horses and enjoying each other’s company. Our Hospitality stall featured “Florida Pride!” The military tribute and flag ceremony on Saturday was a proud moment for us all. We tried to offer a little bit for everyone and it was our mission to bring unity to our big gaited horse family! Our musician was talented and brought a level of professionalism to our show that we felt was so important. Our judges were fair and engaged. Our exhibitors were excellent in their sportsmanship and our volunteers and staff went above and beyond. We are so thankful for everyone that was involved. At the end of the show, the very best part was knowing that we had accomplished something far beyond our imagination and we could actually give back something to our special cause. The First Annual SSRMHC 3 Day Charity Event was nothing short of serendipitous!
Plans are already underway for the 2nd Annual Event in February of 2020. Stay tuned for additional events that may come up in the summer and fall!
